In the depth of the beautiful forest, with tall trees and colorful flowers, lives the good gazelle, playing and running between the trees and flowers. One day, the gazelle heard a severe screaming sound from an animal asking for help and crying: Save me, save me. The gazelle wondered: What is this sound?

The Wolf in the Pit: The gazelle approached the source of the sound and found the surprise. A tree trunk had fallen on the wolf, dropping him into a deep pit from which he couldn’t escape. The wolf said to the gazelle: A tree trunk fell on me while I was walking in the forest. Help me, oh noble one, and I will never forget this favor from you.

The Gazelle’s Nobility: The gazelle thought a little and seemed hesitant, then said: Even though you, oh wolf, are my bitter enemy, I will save you. The wolf said: Thank you, oh noble gazelle, may Allah bless you. The gazelle said: But how do I save you, oh wolf? The trunk is fallen over you and prevents you from getting out of this pit.

The wolf said: The matter is extremely simple. Just put your horns under the tree trunk and help me lift it off me. The gazelle advanced, gathered all his strength, and indeed succeeded in lifting the trunk off the wolf, helped by his strong horns. He said to him: Come, oh wolf, go to your home and beware not to fall into the same problem again.

The Treacherous Wolf: The wolf came out of the pit and kept looking at the gazelle. Instead of thanking her for her help and saving him from the pit, he thought to eat her. The gazelle felt fear from the wolf’s looks at her and said: Strange, oh wolf, why are you looking at me like this? I saved your life, and you want to eat me and make me lose my life. You are a treacherous animal and ungrateful for favors. The wolf said: I feel hungry. I stayed a lot in the pit under the tree trunk without food. So complete your help to me, for I am hungry.

The Wise Bird’s Trick: The gazelle ran fleeing away from the wolf. The wolf hurried running behind her to catch up with her. During this struggle, while the gazelle was trying to escape from the treacherous wolf, the wise bird passed by them and said: What’s wrong with you? Why are you arguing?

The wolf told him the story from beginning to end from his point of view, then the gazelle told the story also from her point of view. The wise bird laughed and said: I don’t believe anything you say. I must see for myself how the gazelle saved the wolf.

Retribution in Kind: The treacherous wolf ran in the same place he was in before the gazelle saved him. The gazelle placed the tree trunk over him again. Then the gazelle advanced, carrying the tree trunk with his horns as happened before. But the wise bird shouted and said: Don’t lift the tree trunk off him, oh good gazelle. Leave him like this and don’t save him again. He tried to harm you despite your help to him. Leave him so he won’t meet good with evil again, and won’t reward a favor with harm.

Thus the gazelle and the wise bird left, and the treacherous wolf was left facing his inevitable fate, the reward of his treachery toward one who did good to him.
