The sun rose in the morning, and the birds began to chirp as they do every day, and the little chicks started picking up grains from the ground, running here and there. After the chicks were full and exhausted from running with their small colored wings, they all lay down under the warm sun’s rays, while the white chick stood, observing the animals in the barnyard, especially the cow. Every day, he looked at it and compared its size to his, and his body to the size of its head! He said to himself how very small I am.
That cow must have special abilities that make it grow to this size, and he said to himself my mother always says that whoever eats a lot grows a lot, and upon these thoughts, the white chick set off and began devouring the grains with strange greediness, as he had seen the cow’s wide and large mouth, and its method as it chewed food inside it, and thought that a lot of food is a beneficial thing.
The white chick kept eating from the grains until his stomach was full, and he began to pant and felt that he was no longer able to catch his breath. He said I have eaten a lot but I will not become the size of that cow, for I have only picked up some grains, and my stomach filled immediately, while the cow eats every day and all day. Here his mother saw him while he was sad and unable to stand on his feet, so she asked him why are you lying down like this? He asked her will I become the size of that cow, oh mother?
His mother laughed and patted his soft feathers with her wing, and asked him why the cow? He said to her that the cow is large in size, and also strong, and when it makes its thundering sound, I feel extreme fear, so his mother answered him that God has created us in different shapes and sizes, and if we are smaller in size than the cow, look at the butterflies and ants and others, for we are larger than them in size.
And they might see us just as we see the cow, except that the little white chick was stubborn and insisted that he wanted to become the size of the cow, even if he was larger in size than the butterflies and ants. Suddenly his stomach hurt him, so his mother said to him this is the punishment, your consumption of many grains which is more than your stomach’s capacity, and she advised him not to do that again, and to sleep a little until he wakes up in a better condition.
The white chick indeed slept, and began to dream that he was walking in the barnyard, and saw a lot of clover, so he started eating from it, until his size grew and began to increase, to become the size of the cow. The white chick rejoiced, and set off towards the barnyard, so the cow was astonished, along with three other cows, and they all looked at the chick, and one of them asked him who are you? He answered her I am a cow, so she said to him no rather you are a strange creature, true you resemble the chick but you are not one, so the chick answered her angrily no I am a cow, so the cow said to him you are a liar.
And another advised come let us call the police, it must be a strange animal escaped from the zoo, and all the cows agreed on this opinion, so the chick set off frightened, and ran towards the chicken coop, and as soon as they saw him coming towards them, they looked at him in horror, and started running in every direction, then they closed their door because they did not recognize him, and thought he was a legendary monster, and they closed the door behind them tightly, so the chick stood alone, and began to cry that his family did not accept him, and he did not succeed in becoming like the cows, and wished to return as a small chick once again.
The white chick woke up from his sleep frightened, and realized that he was only dreaming, so he praised God and ran towards his mother and told her his dream, so she embraced him with affection and said to him, we must always thank God for everything oh little one.
