Years ago, a dance troupe gathered in Prasta, a village located near Stora Milosas in Sardinia, to hold a grand celebration in honor of the birth of the feast. People from the villages and their cities flocked to the village on that specified day, for that occasion, great and small. When they learned that the famous violin player Nurnabis would participate with his violin, which would make them enjoy an amazing melody. It was said that he was not an ordinary violinist, but was extremely talented, and when he heard the word “play” in simple tones, he would organize himself and raise his bow to the heavens.
That night, the degrees of fun and joy reached their peak. One of the attendees said that no one was able to accompany the father when he released the bow to float above the strings, and began playing with four sounds, to the limit of his ability.
For he was always ready to begin when others finished, and so he said that the well-known Satan of his playing, was not able to compete with him in the music of Fales, which he heard that night.
But that boasting cost him greatly. When the dancing stopped and he returned to his home late at night, he met near a hill in the village a beautiful young woman wearing a white dress, greeting him and saying: If you play the Polka music for me, oh father, I will fly for you.
That was while the father was sitting on a rock, and had placed the bow on his family’s strings. But he quickly lost control of himself. The Polka that came from his violin was not expected. So without thinking, he played it.
The notes came out without his intention. The bow was moving on the strings, and the hands were pressing them with the melody. Thus, the melodies harmonized one after the other, and he felt pain in his hand. But the music continued in its same strange way.
Here he realized that there was some mistake, and suddenly his heart broke with sadness and he shouted: Oh God, forgive me, I am the wretched one. What have I brought upon myself?
In those moments, the violin’s strings scattered, and he heard a soft sound of laughter from the valley below the hill. He hurriedly returned to his home, his heart heavy. He hid in a corner of his room, realizing that Satan in the end was stronger than him. After that, he remained unable for a long time to return to his violin.
But in the end, he yielded to the matter, and discovered that one of the melodies of Fales’ music, which he played that wonderful night, had settled deeply in people’s memory. After that, he was able to resume his playing as a violinist more famous and greater than he was before.
