This dog lived on one of the farms, and he was a greedy dog, as he wanted to keep everything for himself. One day, while he was taking his afternoon nap under a tree, he heard a sound and wondered: “What is this sound?” He got up and saw from afar a cart coming carrying a lot of meat. His mouth watered, and he hastened to catch up with the cart, hoping to get a piece of meat.
A piece of meat fell from the cart, so the dog hastened to eat it, but the piece of meat was stuck to the other pieces of meat loaded on the cart, so it was moving with the movement of the cart, and he could not eat it. The dog began to plan to attack the cart and eat the meat on it.
The dog jumped on the cart, held with his feet a piece of the large meat, and came down from the cart again. The dog rejoiced at the success of his plan and decided to hold a meat party. He took the piece of meat far away so that he could eat it.
The dog returned to his place under the tree and kept eating the delicious tasty piece of meat until he felt full. He decided to save the rest for the next day, but he feared that the animals would see the piece of meat and eat it.
He decided to dig a hole to hide the piece of meat inside it. Indeed, he made a deep hole and put the piece of meat inside it, then filled it and felt reassured that no one would be able to eat it. But a crow was standing on the tree and had seen what the dog was doing.
The crow told the dog that he had seen what he was hiding in that hole. So the dog returned and opened the hole again, took out the piece of meat from it and held it, fearing that the crow would eat it. The dog carried what remained of the piece of meat and moved away from the place of the crow.
The dog saw two dogs coming, so he hastened to hide. As soon as the two dogs approached him, they smelled the meat, but they would not be able to find its source, so they went away. The dog rejoiced that the two dogs had not discovered his matter.
While the dog was running, a large dog stopped him and asked him to give him half of the piece of meat, because he had not eaten anything since morning. The dog got angry and told the other dog that he had spent a difficult time until he was able to get that piece of meat. The other dog returned to ask for only half of it, but the dog refused his request.
The two dogs quarreled over the piece of meat, and although it was enough for both of them, the dog was a greedy dog who loved only himself. He inflicted deep wounds on the other dog, held the piece of meat, and ran away from him until he reached the lake.
While he was drinking, he saw three small dogs gathering around the piece of meat and shouting: “We found a piece of meat, oh mother, come and look!” Their mother came and rejoiced at seeing the piece of meat, but the dog hastened and held the piece of meat with his mouth, told them that he was the owner of that piece of meat, and asked them to stay away.
The mother asked the dog to give her a little of the piece of meat to feed her young, telling him that she had not obtained food for them for three days, and her young might die from severe hunger. The dog refused and told them that he had worked hard to get the piece of meat and would not give it up easily. The mother kept pleading until he would have compassion on her young with a little of the meat, while the young were crying of hunger, but he did not have mercy on them and refused to give them a small piece of the meat.
He carried the piece of meat and ran away until he reached a bridge over the river. He said to himself: “If I cross the other bank of the river, I will be able to eat what remains of the meat in peace without anyone disturbing me or sharing the piece of meat with me.”
While the dog was crossing the bridge, he looked up and gazed at the water, so he saw his reflection. He thought that there was another dog with a piece of meat. He kept thinking to himself, and it seemed to him that the piece of meat he saw was larger than the piece of meat he had. The dog intended to attack the image of the dog, so the piece of meat fell into the water. The greedy dog lost the piece of meat that he had fought for and deprived all the other hungry dogs of it.
