Once upon a time in ancient times, there was a small farm whose inhabitants lived in safety. A crowing rooster lived there with beautiful colorful plumage. The rooster possessed a beautiful natural voice with which he would wake the inhabitants every morning. A strong and loyal dog also lived on the farm, protecting the farm’s inhabitants from every evil intruder. The rooster and the dog were intimate friends, inseparable companions who hardly separated throughout the day.
One day, a cunning fox approached the borders of the farm, searching for prey to fill his empty stomach. While the fox was prowling around the farm, he saw the beautiful rooster and decided to make him a delicious meal. But what to do? The rooster was protected by a strong and loyal dog. The cunning fox realized that the only way to reach the rooster was by separating him from the dog. So he began spreading slander between the two friends to divide them.
He stole some eggs and placed them in the dog’s house, then went to the rooster to tell him. He said to him, “I’m here to inform you of a matter.” He said to him, “I saw your friend the dog coming out of the chicken coop carrying some eggs. I think he stole them.” The rooster replied, “This is impossible, you liar. The dog is a faithful and loyal friend.” He said to him, “If you don’t believe me, go to his house and confirm for yourself.”
The rooster hurried to his friend’s house to prove his innocence, but he was shocked when he found the eggs. He rushed to the dog and shouted at him without leaving him room to defend himself. He said to him, “You traitor, how could you betray me and steal eggs from the coop? Stay away from me and the coop from today onward.” The rooster left the place, leaving the dog puzzled about his matter and not knowing what to do.
Thus, the fox was able to divide the two friends and also managed to get the poor rooster alone and tried to prey on him. But he forgot that the rooster had a strong voice that could be heard from afar, and that the dog had sharp hearing that picked up faint sounds. The rooster began screaming and calling for help. The loyal dog rushed to his friend to save him from the grip of the evil fox and drove him out of the farm and its surroundings. Then the two friends realized the cunning fox’s trick. They reconciled and swore not to suspect each other’s loyalty. They learned not to listen to slanderers working to divide loved ones and to verify the truth of their claims before issuing judgments.
