In ancient times, there was a king and queen living in their great palace. But they weren’t happy, for the king and queen had a daughter they had loved for 15 years, but she suddenly disappeared from the palace, and they hadn’t known her place since then. Sadness overwhelmed their hearts, and they began searching for their daughter but without success.
There was a poor girl named Jean living in a large house inside the forest. This girl lived with her foster parents named Chris and Sandy. Chris and Sandy weren’t righteous foster parents for Jean, for they forced her to work in the house all day.
She would cook, clean, and sweep the floors and walls all day. At the end of the day, they would give her a very small meal of boiled onions without spices. Jean loved its taste, but she didn’t own any money to buy any food. Also, she couldn’t leave the hut because Sandy would lock her in the cellar every night after she finished her hard work.
One day, Jean sat crying, for she knew that Chris and Sandy weren’t her real parents, but she didn’t know why they had treated her harshly. It seemed possible that they had treated her harshly only to have her clean the house, and she had wanted to escape from them, but she didn’t know a way to escape from the cellar. Suddenly, while she was crying, a beautiful lady wearing beautiful colored clothes appeared before her. Jean didn’t know that lady. Jean asked her about her personality and how she had reached this cellar.
The lady answered her that she was the fairy of good fortune, and she had come to fulfill Jean’s wish to escape from this terrible house. The sorceress said to the girl that she must get a lock of Sandy’s evil hair until she could cut it off, but Jean didn’t know how she would obtain that lock.
The next day, the evil sorceress Sandy took Jean out of the cellar and ordered her to clean the walls. Jean started cleaning while thinking of a way to get that lock. While Chris and Sandy went out until Jean started from the house and began walking a long way in the forest until they reached a hut in the forest. This hut was the house of the evil sorceress Sandy. Jean started talking to the sorceress, and the evil sorceress’s spell began to appear, for Jean and her husband had kidnapped Jean from her parents after the evil sorceress had performed a magical spell. Upon completing that spell, the king and queen would die, and Chris and Sandy would become their replacements on the throne, while the evil sorceress would obtain the soul of the small girl to become a beautiful witch.
And Chris agreed with the evil sorceress to lock Jean in the cellar so she couldn’t reach her parents. When Jean reached the house, she started screaming toward the poor Jean with the excuse that she hadn’t cleaned the walls well. But Jean replied to her that she had cleaned well, but Sandy started beating Jean who had found the opportunity and began pulling from Sandy’s hair until she cut a lock from it.
In the end, Sandy was able to beat Jean and lock her in the cellar once again. But Jean after obtaining the lock started thinking about the sorceress and questioning what she would do with that lock, and how she could free herself from this terrible prison. Suddenly, the good fairy appeared and explained to the girl everything.
That evil sorceress was actually her sister, and she owned a lock of Sandy’s evil hair. But to undo the spell, she must replace that lock with Sandy’s evil hair. She said to Jean, “All you have to do now is wait until you hear the voice of a strange man calling out to you, and you must answer him with your loudest voice.”
The good fairy went to the king and told him that she knew the place of his daughter, but he must come with her to the forest to find her. The king went, and the good fairy went to her sister and made an agreement with her, which was that she wouldn’t tell the king about her secret, and in return she would give her a lock of Jean’s hair and take a lock of Sandy’s hair. The sorceress agreed because she feared the king.
When the good fairy returned to the king, she started shouting in her loudest voice to guide him to the place of his missing daughter. Jean heard the voice and started screaming for help. The king immediately headed to the place of the house and ordered his guards to search for the girl. When he found Chris and Sandy, he ordered their arrest. But the two evil women told him that this girl was their daughter, but because of his good vision, Jean had actually been born, and on her right arm was a mark resembling a cat’s tail. The king asked her to reveal the mark, and it was indeed present on her right arm. The king confirmed that she was his daughter. He arrested those two evil women who had kidnapped her and tried to kill her. He ordered their imprisonment, while Jean returned to live with her parents once again and lived in continuous happiness.
