Once upon a time, there was a kind boy named Amjad. Amjad had a compassionate heart and loved all people and living creatures. One day, while Amjad was playing with his friends, he saw a scene that saddened him deeply. His mischievous friends were grabbing a cat by its tail, paws, and neck. The poor cat was crying out for help, but the boys paid no mind to its cries, tossing it back and forth without any regard for its pain.
Upset by these cruel actions, Amjad decided to intervene and help the cat. He asked his friends to stop tormenting it, explaining that what they were doing was wrong and forbidden. He told them that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from harming living creatures because they feel pain just as we do, and that those who show mercy will be shown mercy by Allah Almighty. Amjad’s friends felt deep regret for what they had done; they stopped hurting the cat, thanked Amjad for his valuable advice, and promised him they would never harm animals again.
In the evening, Amjad went home and sat with his mother to tell her what had happened. His mother thanked him and praised his actions, for he had saved an innocent creature and, at the same time, prevented his friends from committing a great sin. She reminded him of the story of the woman who entered Hellfire because she had imprisoned a cat without feeding it.
Amjad’s mother went to sleep, and before Amjad went to bed, he went to get a drink of water. He noticed a light coming from the direction of the front door and remembered that his father had not yet returned home because he was working late. He went to make sure the door was properly locked, but to his horror, he found a large snake right at the doorstep. Terrified, Amjad began to scream for help, but none of the neighbors were awake at such a late hour.
Suddenly, a cat appeared before him. It lunged at the snake, seizing it in its teeth and tearing it apart with its claws. Amjad thanked Allah Almighty for sending this cat to save him. When he looked closely at the cat, he realized it was the very same one he had rescued from his friends that morning. The cat looked at him as if it were thanking him for his kindness. Amjad reflected on how a good deed always returns to the one who does it, and he resolved to do even more good works so that Allah might make his path in life easy.
