Every morning, swarms of bees go out to gardens and farms, as is their habit every morning. They bring nectar from flowers. One of the bees found a beautiful flower that was blooming and stunning in beauty. The bee approached it, admiring its beauty. When the flower felt the bee, it closed its leaves before the bee. The bee was surprised at the flower’s action and said, “What happened? Why did the flower close its leaves? Did something happen to it?”
The bee tried to open the flower’s leaves for it without benefit, but when the bee left the place and went far away, the flower bloomed again. The bee was very surprised at the flower’s action, for it had never seen a flower close its leaves before it like that. It said, “I’ll try again.” The bee hastened in descending on the flower, and the other one quickly closed its leaves. The bee’s confusion increased, and it was surprised. It said, “There must be a secret.”
The bee stood before the flower and said to it, “What is there, pray tell me? Why do you close your leaves before me? Are you sick or afraid of me?” The flower said angrily, “I am neither sick nor afraid of you, but I don’t want you to exist.” The bee said to it, “Your command is strange. Why are you angry with me like this?”
The flower said in a faint, weak voice, “I have decided not to give my nectar to any bee from now.” The bee laughed and said, “Why? Do you want me to pay the price of the nectar?” The flower said to it, “Yes, if you want my nectar, you must pay the price first.”
The bee said, “And why should I pay you when I offer you a great service?” The flower said, “All that you say is nothing. I don’t feel that you offer me any services.” The bee said, “If I don’t offer you services, then who transfers the pollen grains to you?” The flower said, “Pollen grains? I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
The bee replied and said to it, “Can you tell me what is your function in life?” The flower said, “People smell the good fragrance from me and enjoy my beauty when they look at me.” The bee said, “This is not only this. You have another function, which is to produce seeds. I do the work of transferring small pollen grains on my feet. When I do the work of extracting your nectar, the pollen grains stick to me, and I transfer them from you to another flower. Thus, you then produce seeds after that.”
The flower was amazed and asked the bee, “But what do I benefit from all this?” The bee said, “Haven’t you understood yet, little one? The bees are what bring you pollen grains. So I offer you a service in exchange for you giving me nectar.”
The flower said, “I have understood now.” The flower opened its leaves, the bee took the nectar, and completed its path to the remaining flowers. Then it returned to the beehive and poured the nectar it produced, from which delicious honey comes.
