Once upon a time, there was a just and wise king. One day, this king summoned one of his guards, then asked him: Do you believe in luck? The guard answered him immediately, saying: Yes, Your Majesty the King, I believe in the existence of luck. The king looked at him smiling, then said: Can you prove its existence with evidence? The guard answered with complete confidence: Yes, Your Majesty the King, I can do that.

The guard told the king that he had a simple plan to prove the existence of luck, then told the king the details of his plan. The king agreed, saying: Well, do what you said. So the guard that night hung a small bag in one of the guards’ special rooms. No person knew what that bag contained except the king and the guard who made the plan.

When night came, two guards entered that room where the bag was hung to sleep. One of them entered deep sleep as soon as he entered the room, while the other noticed the presence of a bag hung in the room. Darkness was covering the corners of the room at that time. The man put his hand in the bag to know what this bag carried.

The man realized that the bag contained peas, so he said to himself: I will take them even if they seem like a poor meal. Indeed, the man ate the peas. While he was eating them, he found small stones in the middle, as the guard who made the plan had placed precious stones in the middle of the peas.

The man who ate the peas didn’t realize the value of those stones that were in his hands, but believed they had no value. He looked at his sleeping friend, laughing, saying: You take these worthless stones because you are lazy. In the morning, the second man found the stones beside him, so he took them and knew their value, and became one of the wealthy because of them.

The king and the guard were watching everything that was happening from the room window. They found how the first man was unlucky while the sleeper was luckier. The guard who made the plan was very happy because his plan had succeeded, as he proved to the king that luck actually exists. He looked at the king, saying: And now, what is your opinion, Your Majesty the King?

The king looked smiling at the guard, saying: Your argument seems strong, but you must note that luck is rare in existence. Therefore, you shouldn’t depend on it in your life. Rather, you must work, be diligent, and strive until God Almighty provides for you. And if God wants to grant you good luck, you will certainly get it.
