In one of the green farms lived a donkey and a dog with a group of other animals. Each of them had his work and function inside the farm.
The Journey Path: The farmer would go out every morning, carrying milk to sell on a cart. The donkey would pull the cart to the city. The distance between the farm and the city was long. Additionally, it required a long time from him.
The Donkey and the Dog: On this path, the donkey became very tired from his work. He would go out in the morning and return in the evening, exhausted from the long journey and the heavy weight. His work was extremely hard. When the donkey returned to the stable, he would find the dog sleeping lazily and in complete tranquility!
The Donkey’s Rebuke to the Dog: This scene, which repeated before him every day, angered the donkey. The quarrel intensified between the donkey and the dog about sleeping and laziness. The donkey rebuked the dog, saying to him, “You are useless. You rest during the day and annoy us with your barking at night. You must leave the farm, for there is no benefit expected from you here.”
The Guard Dog: The dog answered, “I can never be dispensed with. I guard the farm in the owner’s absence when he is in the market…” One night, the rains were severe, and the winds were strong and howling. A thief entered the farm attempting to steal it. As soon as he reached the cowshed, the dog heard the thief’s movement and smelled with his nose the scent of someone entering the cowshed. He knew it was a thief and a stranger to the place, especially when he saw the thief had tied one of the cows and was trying to drag her out.
The Dog and the Thief: The dog began to bark intensely to wake the farmer. He stood up and jumped to grab the thief, biting him in the leg until he threw him to the ground. The thief tried to escape but did not succeed because the dog had sunk his strong teeth into his other leg.
The Farm Owner, the Thief, and the Police: The farmer came out quickly after hearing the dog’s barking to see the cause of the commotion that was happening. He found the dog grabbing the thief, spreading his claws and teeth on him. The farmer took the thief to the police to receive his punishment.
The Importance of the Dog to the Farm: From that day on, the donkey realized the value of the dog, who slept morning and evening. He recognized his importance and admired his intelligence and courage. He realized that what the dog had done he could not do.
The Donkey’s Apology and Recognition of the Hidden Role: The donkey apologized to the dog and said to him, “My friend, you were wonderful. Were it not for you, all the cows would have been stolen from the farm.” Thus, the donkey recognized that every creature in this farm, and in this life, has a role that cannot be dispensed with, after he had believed that he alone was the one who toiled and suffered in this farm.
