In the village farm, a white gosling lived with the rest of the geese, who were gray in color. His color was less beautiful than the white gosling’s color, who was vain with himself, proud of his different color. He went and came among the birds, priding himself, happy with the birds’ gazes around him at his attractive feather and clear color.
But the birds began to be annoyed by his pride in himself, ignoring him or saying to him: Why all this boasting? Do you think there is no white gosling in the world except you? The goose noticed that the birds started looking at the black rooster.
And saying to him: How beautiful your black color is. Your feathers are very beautiful. When the gosling heard all the words of admiration for the black rooster, envy took hold of him, and he began thinking of a way to attract their attention to him again.
One day, while walking in the farm, he found a pile of black soot beside the fence. He thought to himself: I will dye my feathers with this black color until I become like the black rooster, and the birds will notice me again and praise my beauty.
Indeed, the gosling went, wetted his feathers in the water pond, then ran to the pile of soot and rolled in it. The soot stuck to his feathers, and his color became pitch black like tar. He began walking vainly with himself, thinking that whoever saw him would admire him again, for now his color was blacker than the black rooster’s.
When he reached the duck flock, he ran to them so they could see him. But when they saw him, a great commotion occurred among them. They felt fear and began fleeing from him left and right, saying: What is this ugly goose? He looks like the devil with his black color. The gosling began calling them to tell them he was their friend, the white goose raised with them, but without success.
The white goose became sad, and exhaustion overcame him from much running. He went to the pond and bathed in it until all the soot was removed from his body. His color returned white and beautiful as before. When the other goslings saw him, they ran to him, asked him where he had been, and told him about the black devil that had appeared and frightened them.
The goose laughed and told them it was him, but covered with a layer of soot. Everyone laughed at what had happened and told him that his white color, which God created him with, is the most beautiful of colors. The gosling rejoiced and said to them: You are right. I have confirmed this, and I will not change God’s creation a second time.
