Samr entered upon her father and saw him sitting at a table reading in a book. She approached him, asking: “Father, will you take me to the public park today? The weather is beautiful and the scenery is charming.” Her father looked at his little daughter smilingly and said: “I will take you, O my little sparrow. Wait a little until I finish reading the remaining page.” Samr rejoiced and began to contemplate the things upon the table. She saw white papers and a red wax candle, pens placed in a wooden box, and a small earth globe whose blue surface she was touching, mounted on a metal base.
She approached the globe and began spinning it in wonder. The globe contained colored surfaces with different colors upon it, with many lines and names. Samr asked: “What are the names of these lines?” Her father closed the book and pointed to the center of the globe and said to him: “This line is the equator.” Then he pointed to the left of the globe and said: “This is the orbit of the whale,” then to the south and said: “This is the orbit of the goat.”
Then she asked and said: “And why does the blue color occupy a large surface?” Her father said: “Because it represents the seas and oceans. They form three-fourths of the surface of the earth globe.” Samr said: “I remember that you promised to take me to the park in the winter.” Her father said: “Very well, on the condition that you obtain the first grade.” She said: “Reassured, for I am striving.”
She said: “But where is the park?” He brought his head near the globe and took a pen, pointing with it to a green-colored surface and said: “This is our country and that is the city of the park.” Samr took a deep breath as if imagining herself before the sea, then she asked: “Where is the Levant?” He pointed to a greenish-colored surface and she said: “Where is Egypt?” He said: “It is here in the yellow color.” Her father headed to wear his going-out clothes. After a little, he called his little daughter to go to the garden, but he did not hear an answer. He opened the door of his room and found her playing with the candle, melting the green wax and drawing birds and flowers. The father laughed and said: “You have transferred the public park to the surface of the globe.”
