Little Mazen is a child in the tenth year of his age. He moved with his small family to a new house near his father’s work so that he would not feel exhausted from driving for a long time.

The good father was able to find a beautiful house, and for Mazen there was a special room in it, which he was very happy with, especially the upper room. In Mazen’s view, it abounded with many precious things. He was always fond of everything antique, and in the upper room, he found many jugs, wooden and ivory artifacts, and also brass ones.

One day, Mazen decided to go up to the upper room and begin examining what treasures it contained, as he called them. Indeed, he went up and began searching here and there. But suddenly, the room door closed, and Mazen became alone in the room in the darkness. Mazen felt extreme fear from staying alone. He began knocking on the door a lot, hoping someone would hear him, but to no avail. Mazen began looking around him, then sat on the ground and began crying from extreme fear. He thought there was no way out of this place, especially since he had tried to open the door from the inside, but unfortunately, the door remained tightly closed without any movement.

Mazen slept to wake up to the light of the sun that had sneaked to him through the window openings. Mazen began calling his parents again, but to no avail. He began turning toward the things existing in the room. With a little searching, Mazen forgot the matter of the room door closing, especially when he found a shining jug with engravings different from what was around it. Mazen began trying to read what was written on it, and kept turning it between his hands. But he was surprised by a blue-colored genie emerging from the jug just as he had read in stories. The genie said to him that he was his servant and could fulfill any request he ordered him.

Mazen asked the genie in astonishment: Why do you fulfill specifically for me any request? The genie answered because he was the one who brought him out of his imprisonment. He had remained imprisoned inside this jug for forty full years. Mazen asked him to bring him some food, for he was hungry and had not tasted food since yesterday. The genie brought him extremely delicious food. Mazen ate from it until he was completely full.

Then he asked him to open the locked room door for him. Indeed, the genie opened the door for him. Mazen went to his family who had searched for him everywhere. Mazen told them what had happened to him and how the room door had closed behind him. But he did not tell them about the genie who had brought him out. He kept the genie’s secret to himself and began cooperating with him in helping the poor and needy. Mazen felt he had indeed done a good deed.
