Once upon a time, there was an old man named Grandfather Salim. That grandfather was accustomed to reading the daily newspaper every day without missing a day without reading. One day, Grandfather Salim was searching for his glasses to read the newspaper as his habit.
Grandfather Salim didn’t find his glasses despite searching a lot for them, as he couldn’t read without glasses. After a little while, a little girl named Salma came and said to her grandfather with a smile, “Did you find your glasses, oh grandfather? I know their place.” The grandfather asked her about their place, and she told him that her brother Murwan had taken them, hidden them, and told her that she had seen him himself and placed them under his mattress.
Here, the grandfather called to Murwan and said to him, “Come here, oh Murwan. Tell me, did you take my glasses, oh my son?” Murwan answered, “No, oh grandfather. I didn’t see your glasses.” The grandfather said to him, “Do you know, oh my son, that God, glory and majesty to Him, doesn’t love liars?” Murwan answered, “I swear by God, oh grandfather, that I didn’t see them, and I don’t lie to you.” Immediately, the grandfather went to Murwan’s room and looked under his mattress, and found the glasses.
The grandfather called to Salma and said, “Come here. Did you truly see your brother placing the glasses under the mattress?” Salma answered, “Yes, oh grandfather. Indeed, I saw him.” Here, the grandfather noticed that Salma was laughing while speaking. So he said, “If no one saw you, oh Salma, God sees you, oh my daughter.”
The grandfather continued and said, “Did you truly see your brother doing that?” Here, Salma exploded with laughter and told her grandfather, “No, oh grandfather. I didn’t see anyone. I placed the glasses under the mattress myself. I was making a joke. I was playing with you, oh grandfather.” The grandfather felt sad and said, “What you did, oh my daughter, is not correct. It’s a lie.”
Salma said, “But I was joking as I thought, oh grandfather.” The grandfather said, “You lied and accused your brother falsely, oh Salma. And this matter isn’t correct. It’s wrong.” Salma said, “A joke and playing, only, oh grandfather.” The grandfather answered, saying, “Sometimes, joking turns into something very bad.” So Salma apologized to her grandfather and to Murwan, promising them both not to do that again.
