“Although I wear my nice shoes on my feet, I feel intense heat emanating from the sands on the shore. The sun’s rays appear extremely burning and very hot. Despite all this, I always carry my private umbrella with its cheerful colors. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to finish the generous cream. It melted and fell on my clothes for these reasons. The sun doesn’t please me. The moon is much more wonderful than it. It doesn’t harm anyone.”
The girl hurried and returned to her home, shouting, “Mother, what’s your opinion? What’s better, more beneficial, and larger in size? Is it the moon or the sun?” The mother smiled and looked at her daughter, saying, “The sun is much larger than the moon in size, but despite that, both have a great role and extreme importance. And overall, preference goes to the sun, as we derive light and heat from it.”
The girl was amazed at her mother’s words and said laughing, “Do you mean, Mother, that this sun acts as an electric generator? Are there electric wires connecting it to the moon?” The mother answered, saying, “No, my daughter. It’s not like that. The moon is far from the sun. However, the moon acts as a mirror, as it absorbs light from the sun throughout the day and reflects it through the night to illuminate the earth.”
The girl said, “But, Mother, the sun doesn’t come at night. It comes only during the day, and the moon comes only at night.” The mother said, “My daughter, the sun is constant as it is. But what rotates is the earth. When darkness arrives, the earth has completed its rotation. Then the sun becomes in the other part of the world, illuminating the second part of the world. As for the moon, it’s also like the earth - it rotates and moves. For this reason, you sometimes see it appear small, and other times it appears as if it were large, and sometimes a third time it disappears.”
The girl said, “Let me tell you a secret, Mother. Regarding me, I like the sun much more than the moon, but it doesn’t love me, by custom.” The mother laughed and said, “How did you know, my daughter? The sun grants us all the necessary energy for warmth, light, and heat.”
The girl said, “Regarding me, Mother, when I go out to play in the garden, I feel my skin burning me, especially in summer.” The mother answered, “The sun performs its duties, my daughter. Without it, we would die from the extreme cold. It acts based on commands from God, glory and majesty to Him.” The girl said, “But it harms me, unlike the moon.”
The mother said, “Each of us should love the other, but every person has their responsibilities. You should thank God. The sun burns you often but it also performs its role, and all its matters proceed by God’s command.” The girl thanked her mother and said, “I’ll go out, Mother.” The mother said, “Where to, my daughter?” She said, “I’ll play with the sun. It’s my friend who loves me a lot and hates me.” The mother laughed and said, “Well, don’t be late, my daughter. Indeed, the sun has tasks. Don’t prevent it from performing them.”
