One day, Hanaa was sitting in her room after a tiring day of performing many household chores. Her mother called her repeatedly, saying: Please, tidy your room, Hanaa. Wash the laundry, Hanaa. Put your dish in the sink.
Hanaa hated household chores. Suddenly, an exciting idea occurred to her: What if I invented a mechanical girl exactly like her, who would perform the chores instead of her? The little inventor started working, and after staying up late, she completed her invention successfully. The first day was wonderful. She locked her room door and sat playing electronic games throughout the evening.
Day after day, Mechanical Hanaa performed all household functions without fatigue, while Hanaa sat in her room playing without being disturbed. After a period, Hanaa thought: Why not make the mechanical girl go to school instead of me? Thus, I won’t have to do any work and will be free to play. Just as the first week passed, the second week passed, except that Hanaa started getting bored with all the games in her room. There’s a limited number of things she can do alone in a room of this size. Also, she wanted to share the funny things she used to get while playing with her friends, but she no longer saw them since Mechanical Hanaa took over the task of going to school.
Hanaa decided to try returning to school the following week. But when she stood talking to her friends, she couldn’t keep up with their conversation, as many important events had been lost to her during the period she spent in her room.
When Hanaa returned home, she decided to return to her place at the lunch table, but the same thing happened. She also discovered that she had lost the opportunity to go with her family on a trip to collect butterflies from the forest, which was her favorite hobby. Hanaa felt unhappy. Many enjoyable events had passed her by. She stayed awake all night thinking until she realized that there was only one solution to her problem. In the early morning, Hanaa gathered her courage, put on her school clothes, and sat having breakfast with her family. Then she told her mother, who listened to her smiling about what she had done during the past two weeks.
Then her mother said to her: Your enthusiasm for household chores during that period surprised me. Now I know the reason. Then Hanaa said: I discovered that it’s good to find someone to help us in our work from time to time, but there’s no substitute for living our lives with its boring events sometimes and entertaining events other times.
