Mike was an eleven-year-old boy, the only son of his poor parents. His father worked in carpentry, while his mother was a housewife who didn’t work. Although Mike’s family wasn’t rich, it was a small, happy family.
Mike’s school was a mile from his home, so he wished to have a small bike to go to school with it. With the approach of his birthday, when he would complete his eleventh year, he asked his father to buy him a bicycle to go to school.
His father promised to buy him that bike on his birthday. In the morning of his birthday, Mike woke up at the peak of happiness and activity. Mike felt happy because he would get the bike his father had promised him.
But a little later, his father entered with a wrapped gift that, from its small size, looked like it wasn’t a bike. When his father gave him the gift, he found it was a collection of beautiful books.
Although he wasn’t satisfied with it, he thanked his father for the gift and kissed his cheeks. Mike’s father was very sad because he couldn’t bring his son the bike he dreamed of. He promised him he would buy it for him when he had its price.
A week later, Mike was walking on his way home from school. While doing so, he saw a boy riding a bike. Mike felt the bike wasn’t suitable for him, as it was small for his body.
Suddenly, the boy collided with the sidewalk and fell from the bike to hit the ground. Mike hurried to help the boy. When he approached, he knew he was his classmate named Sam, who had been badly injured.
There was no one to help him except Mike, so Mike immediately offered some water to his friend. When he found Sam’s leg and hand were seriously injured, he asked him to sit and hurried to the nearby hospital to request help.
In just a few minutes, the ambulance came to transfer Sam to the hospital. At that time, Mike hurried to Sam’s house and informed his parents about the accident that happened to their son. Sam’s father went with Mike immediately to the hospital and thanked Mike for what he did for his son Sam and the help he provided him.
When Sam’s mother learned what happened to her child, she said the reason was that unsuitable bike Sam was riding. Mike went every day to check on Sam in the hospital. After this accident, they became very close friends.
After Sam came out of the hospital, he learned that Mike didn’t have a bike and came to school every day walking. He suggested to his father to offer his small bike as a gift to Mike. His father agreed to this good idea that would return the favor to Mike.
He went with his son Sam to Mike’s house, taking the small bike with them. There, they asked Mike’s father for permission to gift the bike to his son. Mike’s father agreed when he saw his son extremely happy with that beautiful bike. After that, the two families became friends forever.
