One day, I felt pain in my eyes and began searching for my belongings but did not find them. I ran to my mother and father and complained to them my troubles. They quickly reassured me. My mother said, “Basil, my dear, do not fear. The matter is simple.” Basil said, “Simple? How? I do not see well.” The mother said, “I and your father will take you to an eye doctor.” Basil asked, “Why? Am I sick?” The father said, “No, my son, you are not sick, but you must go to a doctor to examine your eyes.”

Basil remained silent, thinking about the doctor. His mother immediately called and scheduled an appointment with the doctor with the responsible nurse at Dr. Esam’s clinic. The appointed time was exactly four-thirty in the afternoon of the next day. That night, Basil stayed awake until a late hour of the night, thinking about what the eye doctor would do to him, until sleep overcame him and he slept.

On the morning of the next day, Basil went to school, but he was thinking from time to time about visiting the eye doctor. His teacher noticed this matter and asked him, “Is there something bothering you, Basil?” I did not know what to tell her. Basil feared the teacher would think he was sick, but after a long hesitation, he told her the matter. She also reassured him as his parents had done and said to him, “Good. The doctor gives us the correct treatment until we heal and do not feel pain again.”

The school shift ended. When Basil returned home, rested, and ate lunch, Basil changed his clothes. Basil prepared himself for the doctor’s visit. At the appointed time, Basil and his parents came to the doctor’s clinic. The doctor received them with a beautiful smile. Nevertheless, Basil remained afraid, especially when he saw the medical devices. The doctor said to him, “Welcome. I am Dr. Esam. What is your name?” Basil said to him with some shame, “I am Basil.” The doctor said to him, “What are the reasons that made you come to me?” Basil said, “Many times, I do not find my belongings even though they are in front of me, but I do not see them.”

The doctor said to him, “Now, O Basil, I will perform a vision test for you, which consists of different shapes. You only have to answer me accurately.” I looked at them with contemplation. When the examination ended, the doctor said, smiling, “You have slight weakness in your vision.” I looked at the doctor in confusion and did not understand anything from his intent. The doctor said, “This means you need glasses.” Basil said, “Glasses?! I do not want to wear glasses.” The doctor asked him, “Why? What is the problem with glasses?” He told him he was ashamed to wear glasses. The doctor said, “There is nothing to shame you, O Basil.

You will wear glasses for a limited period until your vision improves, and then you will get rid of them.” Basil said to him, “I will look funny. I fear that if I wear them, I will stumble and fall on the ground, and the glasses will break, and everyone will mock me.” The doctor said, “You will stumble without glasses because if you do not treat your eyes, you will not see well in front of you, and the matter may worsen.” Basil said, “Glasses will hinder me from playing, running, and jumping freely.” Basil’s mother intervened and said, “Do not remember your cousin Rami when he wore glasses and it did not hinder him from playing.” The father said, “We can get you a fabric and elastic strap that prevents the glasses from falling.”
