Childhood experiences are more important than any other experiences in a person’s life. There are many incidents that happen to us in our childhood that remain in our memory forever. These incidents are sometimes happy and sometimes sad, but they all shape who we become.
A Story About Losing Sight
One day while the boy was small, while he was taking a shower, he lost his glasses. He was in severe pain from losing them. The boy then thought about what had caused his blindness, for he used to see everything through them.
The boy went to look for his mother’s glasses which she was washing at the time, but when he came, he found his mother had fallen asleep, and his glasses were beside her. The boy was extremely sad and cried bitterly.
But the mother woke up, saw her son’s condition, and gave him the glasses, then told him to be careful and not lose them again.
The Story of the Honest Student
One day, a student named Khalid was playing with his friends during break period in his school’s courtyard. While Khalid and his friends were running, his eyes fell on a significant amount of money present on the ground. He immediately picked it up, then Khalid looked at his friend whose name was Fares, who was standing behind him.
Khalid said to Fares, “I found this money on the ground, oh my friend. I must go immediately to the school office to give this money I found.” Fares answered him, saying, “And why don’t you take this money for yourself, oh my friend? You found money on the ground. So this money is your right.”
Khalid became angry from his friend Fares’s talk and answered him in a sad voice filled with sorrow, “Isn’t this what we were taught specifically about honesty? Didn’t you listen to what our teacher explained to us about the importance of honesty, and that it’s not related to anything - no place and no time. Honesty is itself honesty, whatever the case.”
Khalid continued, saying, “This money shouldn’t be for me. It’s not my right. I must ask about its owner in the school administration.” Here, Fares felt shame and embarrassment toward his friend. So Fares said to Khalid, “I apologize to you, oh Khalid. I didn’t intend to take others’ money. I only thought that it had no owner. I was joking.”
Khalid answered, saying, “There’s nothing without an owner. And even if the money’s owner didn’t appear, I would have done what’s required of me. So let the school handle this matter appropriately. He’s the first to be notified, and he’ll do what he sees as correct.” Then he headed to the school principal and told him about the matter of the money.
The principal thanked Khalid for his honesty and began announcing about the lost money in the school, telling everyone to take care of their belongings, and telling them that whoever lost an amount of money must inform him of its descriptions so he can confirm he’s the owner of the money.
Indeed, they discovered the honest student’s lost books belonging to him. The principal was told what he found. The principal confirmed about the owner of the money and asked the school students to present thanks to the honest student Khalid.
Sumra and the Eggs
One day, a girl named Sumra asked her mother to make her some sweets she loved a lot. The mother asked her to go to the supermarket to buy eggs so she could make sweets for her. Indeed, Sumra went, very happy.
On the way, Sumra met her little neighbor Ubeer and asked her, “Where are you going, oh my neighbor?” Ubeer answered, “Going to the store to buy some eggs so my mother can prepare food for us.” Sumra answered, saying, “I’m also going there to buy eggs.”
After the girls bought eggs from the supermarket, they both returned together from the same path they had come by. However, Ubeer tripped while walking and fell without feeling, and all the eggs broke. So Sumra immediately helped her neighbor until she was able to stand on her feet.
When Ubeer stood up and discovered that all the eggs had broken, Ubeer remained crying bitterly and began saying, “I no longer have any money, and not even with my mother until I buy more eggs another time. What will I tell my mother now? What will my sister and I eat?”
Sumra knew well that Ubeer was very poor. Her father had passed away to God. She knew that her mother used to provide assistance to them. So Sumra thought quickly, then said to her, “No need for sadness, oh my neighbor Ubeer. I’ll give you all the eggs I bought.”
Ubeer said, “You’re not at fault, oh my neighbor Sumra. And how’s that? That shouldn’t be. What will you do, oh Sumra?” Sumra answered, saying, “No need to think about the matter, oh my dear neighbor. Only now, take these eggs because I don’t need them presently.” Ubeer felt overflowing happiness and here thanked Sumra, apologizing to her intensely.
Sumra returned to her home without eggs. Her mother asked about the eggs, and Sumra told her what had happened with Ubeer. The mother felt extreme pride at her daughter because she had helped the needy, who truly deserved assistance. The mother said with overflowing happiness, “Well done, oh my dear daughter. Thank God for you. You felt with intense compassion about the dilemma Ubeer was about to fall into, had it not been for your assistance and the matter was resolved quickly. As for now, you have more money. Go buy some eggs another time, and I’ll immediately prepare the best and most delicious types of sweets for you.”
