Suraj was a student in the fifth grade. He was diligent in studying and committed in class, but between classes he would stand to exchange jokes with friends and return to his place as soon as the teacher arrived.
Once, while the teacher was in the class and asking the students some questions, an embarrassing situation happened to Suraj. He couldn’t control his bladder in some situations, so his pants got wet, and he felt extreme shame.
He began to imagine how his colleagues would think of him if they saw him in this condition. No doubt his wet pants would be their hot topic, everyone would talk about him, and they would look at him with great resentment. Also, the girls in the class would never look at him as a friend.
Suraj’s imagination carried him far away, and he imagined all the bad things that could happen. During that, the mathematics teacher noticed a kind of discomfort appearing on Suraj’s features. He kept watching him for ten minutes to understand his troubles. But Suraj noticed that and tried to act naturally.
Because he was disturbed, he felt his heartbeats increasing intensely, and he felt his heart would suddenly stop pumping from the intensity of his anxiety. He implored God silently, saying: My God, I need You to help me for 5 or 10 minutes, for I am in dire need of You, otherwise I will be dead. Please save me, O Lord.
The teacher felt again that Suraj seemed disturbed, so he looked at him. Suraj smiled so the teacher wouldn’t notice what was with him and discover his matter. But the teacher’s looks made Kiran, Suraj’s friend, notice him. Because his seat was close to Suraj’s, he was able to see his friend’s wet pants.
He asked the teacher to allow him to drink, and he agreed. When Kiran brought the water bottle, he headed to his seat. While passing his friend Suraj’s seat, he intentionally dropped the bottle on him, so water spilled from it onto Suraj’s clothes.
Everyone was shocked, and the teacher hurried to help Suraj. Kiran brought a towel from the staff room. His friends also cleaned his seat, and one of them went to bring some sports clothes from the gym hall for Suraj to wear until his clothes dried.
Everyone, instead of mocking Suraj, became sympathetic with him. Although the teacher scolded Kiran for his carelessness and punished him for dropping the bottle on his colleague, he didn’t feel sad, for he did this intentionally to save his friend from embarrassment.
Naturally, Suraj was very comfortable after all that happened. He looked at his friend Kiran who stood silently in a corner of the class with a look of gratitude. After the school day ended, Suraj approached Kiran and thanked him from his heart.
He apologized to him for the teacher’s scolding. But Kiran smiled calmly and said to him: No need for thanks between friends. I was in your situation a few months ago and found someone to help me too. So don’t thank me, for I did what the duty of friendship required of me.
