She was able to embark on a successful academic journey with excellence and contributed practically to many community institutions, as well as succeeded in publishing many distinguished works, which qualified her to receive many awards and medals. She is Dr. Mouza Obaid Ghubash, daughter of the United Arab Emirates, who carved her name in golden letters within the Arab and Gulf world.

Her Birth and Education: Mouza Obaid Ghanem Ghubash Al Muhairi was born in the Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She pursued the study of sociology, obtaining a master’s degree in this field from Cairo University with distinction. Her thesis addressed the topic of “External Migration and Development,” which is an applied study on the economic, social, and political effects of incoming migration during the year 1983.

She also obtained a doctorate from Cairo University in sociology with distinction with honors. The title of her dissertation thesis was “Classical Class Groups Past and Present for UAE Society” during the year 1987.

Her Professional Life: Dr. Mouza Ghubash worked as the head of the Rawaq Osha bint Hussein Cultural Foundation since its establishment during the year 1992 until the present time. She also held the position of head of the sociology department and professor of sociology at the University of UAE in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at a previous time.

She also held the position of chairman of the board of directors of the Association of Human Studies in the UAE since the year 1989, and also became head of the Permanent Committee for Society Affairs within the Supreme Council for National Security. She obtained membership in the Board of Trustees of the University of Creativity in the UAE, as well as membership in the Board of Trustees of the Al Ofok University College.

Dr. Mouza became the Secretary-General of the Sheikha Shamsa bint Suhail Award for Creative Women since the year 2010 until the year 2016. She is also a founding member as well as a member of the board of directors and chairman of the board of directors for many associations working on public interests, as well as civil society organizations. Among those associations is the “Social Scientists” association in the UAE.

She also obtained membership in the advisory body of many national and Arab associations and organizations. She also became a member of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) since the year 2000 in the field of development and social policies. She also became a member of the Arab Writers Union since the year 2000, and obtained membership at the Center for Arab Research in Cairo since the year 1985.

Her Works: Dr. Mouza Ghubash has published many studies, research papers, and books, as well as wrote numerous articles in newspapers and magazines. She has many television and radio interviews about social issues, UAE history, heritage, national identity, extremism, security, and drugs. She currently writes a weekly article in the Al Bayan newspaper.

She has authored diverse studies and books, including “Studies in Folk Heritage for UAE Society” during the year 1994; “Studies on the Development of Folk Heritage for UAE Society” during the year 1996; “Studies Toward a Civilizational Framework for Arab Society in the Twenty-First Century” during the year 1997; “Sociology of Customs and Traditions for the Birth Stage of UAE Society” during the year 1998; “Drug Use and Its Effect on Values and Behavioral Standards in UAE Society” during the year 1999; the book “My Identity, First Edition” issued during the year 2009; and “My Identity, Second Edition” during the year 2015.

Her Honors: Dr. Mouza Ghubash received the “Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum” Award for Academic Excellence during the year 1988. She also won the “Tareem and Abdullah Omaran” Award, received an honor from the UAE Volunteer Association in Sharjah during the year 2014, and also won the “Al Owais Award for Creativity” during the year 2014. The Council of Arab Women of the Arab League also honored her by granting her honorary membership during the year 2016.
